Prof. Souvik Banerjee
Dr. Banerjee is an Assistant Professor of Chemistry and a member of the Molecular Biosciences Ph.D. program at the Middle Tennessee State University. Prior to joining MTSU in August 2022, he served as an Assistant Professor of Chemistry in the Department of Physical Sciences at the University of Arkansas Fort Smith. He received his Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Southern Mississippi in 2013. His graduate work was focused on enzyme catalysis driven asymmetric synthesis of unnatural constrained amino acids and peptidomimetics. Before enrolling in the graduate program at USM, he worked as a scientist for Syngene International Ltd., a Biocon Biopharmaceutical Company, on various R&D library synthesis projects for Merck. Dr. Banerjee received postdoctoral training at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in the laboratories of Professor Duane D. Miller. His postdoctoral research was aimed at design and synthesis of small molecule autotaxin and tubulin polymerization inhibitors for the treatment of resistant cancers. His current research is primarily centered around X-ray crystallography/ molecular modeling guided design and synthesis of small molecules and peptides with anticancer properties.
